None of this helps you choose. It's generic because it has to be - if every product used the same specific technical claims, the ones that couldn't back them up would be exposed immediately.

The Two Mechanisms That Matter - And Why Both Are Required
A vibration belt earns its place in your recovery routine by delivering two things simultaneously:
Thermal therapy (heat). Heat dilates blood vessels, increasing local circulation. Better circulation means faster delivery of oxygen and recovery nutrients to fatigued or tense muscle tissue, and accelerated clearance of the metabolic waste products (lactic acid, inflammatory byproducts) that accumulate in overworked muscles and produce the sensation of aching and stiffness. This is why heat on a sore muscle produces progressive relaxation - not immediate numbing, but an actual physiological reversal of some of the conditions producing the soreness.
Mechanical vibration. Rapid, rhythmic mechanical stimulation activates what physiologists call the tonic vibration reflex - a neuromuscular response where the muscle spindles are stimulated in a way that directly induces muscle relaxation in tense or spasming tissue. Separately, vibration activates large sensory nerve fibers that compete with pain signals, reducing perceived pain intensity through the gate control mechanism. Together: direct muscle relaxation plus reduced pain perception in the same session.
The combination works because the two mechanisms address different components of the same problem simultaneously. Heat works on circulation and thermal relaxation (a sustained, building effect); vibration works on active muscle tension and pain perception (an immediate, mechanical effect). Neither mechanism achieves alone what the combination delivers together - and this is why a heat-only belt consistently underperforms a heat-plus-vibration belt for active muscular tension.
Any vibration belt evaluation should start here: does it actually deliver both mechanisms with sufficient quality? Everything else is secondary.
The Specifications That Indicate a Belt Will Perform
Heat range with independent adjustment. The belt needs to reach therapeutic warmth (typically 40-50°C range on the body surface) to produce meaningful circulation benefit. But it also needs to be adjustable - what's comfortable for one person in winter is uncomfortable for another in summer, and a fixed single heat level means you can't adapt to individual tolerance. Look for at minimum 3 independently adjustable heat levels.
Vibration frequency range (Hz) - if stated. Effective vibration therapy for muscle relaxation operates in the 20-60 Hz range in most physiotherapy research. Consumer devices that state their operating frequency in this range are more likely to be engineered toward the therapeutic mechanism than devices with no stated frequency. This specification is rarely prominent in marketing - but it's in the technical specs of properly designed devices.
Cordless/rechargeable operation. This isn't a luxury feature. A corded belt restricts use to within cable distance of a power outlet, which means the sessions where you most need relief - on a train, in a hotel, at a desk without a nearby outlet - aren't accessible. Cordless operation is a prerequisite for a device that's actually usable in your daily life consistently.
Battery life - actual session count. Look for at minimum 2 full sessions (30-40 minutes total at moderate settings) per charge. A belt with 20 minutes of total battery life before recharging isn't practical for daily use.
Belt width and coverage area. A narrow belt concentrates heat and vibration on a smaller horizontal band of the back. A wider belt covers the full lumbar and waist region. For general lower back tension from desk work - the most common use case - broader coverage typically produces better results than a narrow band positioned precisely over a single muscle group.
Inner material and skin contact surface. The inner surface is what contacts your skin for 15-20 minutes per session. Rough, abrasive, or non-breathable inner materials cause skin irritation with repeated use. Soft, skin-safe inner lining with some breathability is a comfort requirement for consistent daily use - and consistent daily use is what produces cumulative improvement.
What Doesn't Matter as Much as It Appears To
Total number of vibration modes. "16 massage modes" sounds like more value than "5 massage modes." In practice, most users settle into 1-2 modes that suit them and never explore the rest. What matters is whether the modes that exist are effective - not how many there are. More modes on a device with a weaker motor is worse than fewer modes on a device with a stronger, better-calibrated motor.
Infrared labelling without wavelength specification. Many heat belts use "infrared" in their marketing without specifying whether this is near-infrared (which has meaningful tissue penetration), far-infrared (which has somewhat different characteristics), or simply a standard heating element marketed as "infrared." If a device claims infrared without any wavelength specification, treat it as a standard heat claim until proven otherwise.
Auto-programmes and presets. Smart cycling through heat and vibration combinations can be a useful feature - but it's a preference, not a therapeutic advantage. Manual control with a good adjustment range is more useful than 10 auto-programmes you can't precisely control.
App connectivity for a belt. Smartphone app control makes more sense for devices where real-time biometric feedback is relevant (sleep trackers, fitness monitors). For a heat-and-vibration belt, direct on-device controls are simpler, faster, and don't require your phone to be nearby and connected during every session.
